Fashion // I sing the body electric

Happy May! I don’t know about where you all live, but here, it’s been raining since Sunday, and won’t stop until Monday. Not a great way to start May, but hey—gotta make the most of it.

Here’s an outfit I’ve been repeating A LOT lately. I tend to do that: find a combo I love, and then exhaust it. The top is actually a dress from Shein, one of those sites that got into trouble recently for scams—and while this “dress” is well made and what I ordered, it is also waaaay too short to be a dress. Here it is as a tunic-type top, paired with burgundy leggings. Hope you like!

DIY // Lana Del Rey floral headphones

If you’ve been reading this blog for any period of time, you’ll know my love for Lana Del Rey. One day, I decided I really wanted these Lana Del Rey headphones, the ones she wears in the amazing music video for “Music To Watch Boys To,” and since I couldn’t find these Lana Del Rey headphones online, my ol’ reliable is to figure out how to make them. And find out I did.

First, I tried to find decent headphones with a structure that would allow a bit of hotgluing, and secondly, I went on a Google search for the right flowers. Once I had all of my supplies, it was time to get to work!

New DIY project: Lana Del Rey or Princess Leia headphones?

Okay, so I’m getting that creative itch to make something, and I’ve been inspired by two people: Lana Del Rey and Princess Leia (or, if you know what I’m talking about, Princess Vespa from Spaceballs). I’ve always wanted fun/quirky/weird headphones, and since I can’t buy what I have in mind, I’m going to do what I always fall back on: good ol’ do it yourself.

In case you don’t follow either Lana Del Rey or Star Wars lore, here are the two pairs of headphones I covet. The first is from the “Music To Watch Boys To” video by Lana Del Rey, and the other was inspired partly by Princess Leia, and partly by the 1987 Star Wars parody movie Spaceballs (in which Princess Vespa has headphones that look like Leia’s signature hairstyle—so funny):

Fashion // If you stay, I’ll stay

TOO COLD today for outdoor photos, so I had to stay inside and take a few quick photos before I headed out into the subzero temps. Winter this year has been a little moody, guys. Can’t make up its mind. This outfit is made up of stuff I forgot I had. I always try to be frugal and stay away from shopping for as long as I can hold out, so the most fun thing for me is to turn my drawers inside out and find new and exciting ways to wear things that are old and feel boring to me.

I love this faded orange skirt with this blush pink skirt—perfect for a lighweight (very cold) winter outfit! Love these romantic bell sleeves, with a little lace for good measure. Hope you like.

Fashion // Sun or Summer Days

Truly, the last days of the summer are drifting away. Where I live, it’s been getting chillier and chillier at night, so fall must be around the corner. Three days left of summer! How can I make the most of this?!

This outfit is pretty nautical, but I tried to transition these light, airy summer pieces with a few touches of fall: my jacket, boots and leaf necklace. It was perfect for a nighttime casual outfit. I’ll miss my two-pieces and my shorts, but I love trying new combos and transitioning a late summer wardrobe for early fall.

Title inspired by Lana Del Rey’s “Music To Watch Boys To.” Her new album came out today. ~~~~ 🙂IMG_4373 IMG_4396 IMG_4421 IMG_4405IMG_4444 IMG_4447

Fashion // I wasn't crazy, I was divine

SNOW! It won’t be long before we’ll all be there with snow…

When it snows I turn into a five-year-old. Sorry not sorry 🙂 Here’s a rather Christmassy outfit I put together from some new things and some old. Stood outside to take these photos and felt like a kid again, letting the snow just cover me. I suggest you try this sometime, it’s great for the soul.

The title of this post is from a new song by Lana Del Rey, my obsession. It’s from the new film Big Eyes which I am dying to see.

Fashion // Blue Hydrangeas

Happy September! Soon the days will shorten and it will snow and then Christmas will be here…I love autumn. Here are some photos from the end of August when I took a walk around my ivy-covered backyard. I’m going to miss summer.

Reflections on Rant Chic

It’s been a couple weeks since I started writing for Rant Chic, and I wanted to share some of my favorite articles on here, and some reflections about my experience. I really like having the freedom to write about whatever I like, and since it’s a website specifically geared toward girls and women, the experience has taught me a lot about what I want to read about, versus topics that are stereotypically “girly.” Strangely enough, I haven’t written a lot about fashion; it’s been a lot of culture and more feminist-themed articles. I would definitely like to express my love for fashion and sense of style on the site, but in the meantime, I’m loving these culture articles! I also like the times when I can write about food and Friends.

Here are my favorite articles so far:

A Feminist’s Love for Lana Del Rey

I love Lana, and I really wanted to explore my feelings toward her as a feminist.

ModCloth Signs Anti-Photoshopping Pledge

I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the news, and think it’s a major coup for those who want more honesty in advertising!

18 Organic and Cheap Beauty Methods to Try Today

I’ve spoke a little about my organic beauty tricks here, and I did a little research to uncover a lot more beauty methods! They’re pretty awesome.

JK Rowling Should Never Stop Writing

I’ve been pretty annoyed lately by articles insisting JK Rowling stop writing for various reasons, and I completely disagree.

Olivia Wilde Breastfeeds In Glamour’s September Issue

I loved Olivia Wilde’s September spread in Glamour, and thought about what it means for the so-called controversy of breastfeeding in public.

Let me know what you guys think!

Fashion // I hear the birds on the summer breeze

This is an outfit from about a week ago when I went to brunch with my family. The skirt’s from Chicwish. I really love the lining on the inside and the detail on the waist but it wrinkles so easily. I tried to put a braid in my hair and make it a bit more interesting. Not sure it worked! Happy Monday!
