New Look // Vintage Dress from the 1950s (That Makes Me Happy)

Hi all! This year I got obsessed with one thing: finding perfect and beautiful vintage dresses, prompted by a pin I saw linking to Etsy. I got lost in the world of Etsy vintage listings, and wound up buying two amazing cotton dresses from the 1950s, one yellow and blue, and one off-white and light brown. This one is the latter.

Recently, I’ve been all about the full skirts and midi lengths. There’s something about them that’s so feminine and empowering. I love the swish of the fabric and sitting down and seeing the skirt billow around me! Plus, I love twirling. 馃槈 So fun! This dress is from an Etsy shop I found that has a ton of vintage dresses. This one was probably handmade, as it’s unlined and has no tags. I love that vintage clothing has history, and also it’s nice to buy secondhand sometimes.

Hope you like this look!

DIY // Lana Del Rey floral headphones

If you’ve been reading this blog for any period of time, you’ll know my love for Lana Del Rey. One day, I decided I really wanted these Lana Del Rey headphones, the ones she wears in the amazing music video for “Music To Watch Boys To,” and since I couldn’t find these Lana Del Rey headphones online, my ol’ reliable is to figure out how to make them. And find out I did.

First, I tried to find decent headphones with a structure that would allow a bit of hotgluing, and secondly, I went on a Google search for the right flowers. Once I had all of my supplies, it was time to get to work!

New DIY project: Lana Del Rey or Princess Leia headphones?

Okay, so I’m getting that creative itch to make something, and I’ve been inspired by two people: Lana Del Rey and Princess Leia (or, if you know what I’m talking about, Princess Vespa from Spaceballs). I’ve always wanted fun/quirky/weird headphones, and since I can’t聽buy what I have in mind, I’m going to do what I always fall back on: good ol’ do it yourself.

In case you don’t follow either Lana Del Rey or Star Wars lore, here are the two pairs of headphones I covet. The first is from the “Music To Watch Boys To” video by Lana Del Rey, and the other was inspired partly by Princess Leia, and partly by the 1987 Star Wars parody movie Spaceballs (in which Princess Vespa has headphones that look like Leia’s signature hairstyle鈥攕o funny):

Current obsessions: literary fashion and quirky purses

Also, Instagram. Instagram is by far my most-opened app on my phone, and it’s quickly becoming the new “blogging” platform, and for established bloggers more influential than I, updating several times a day even is becoming a necessity. So, through Instagram, I’ve been able to connect with so many fellow bloggers with interests similar to mine, and have been influenced by their reading choices, fashion choices, inspirational words and the oft-discussed “Monday Motivation” (hey, we all need it!). I can also follow my favorite brands like Jeffrey Campbell and salivate over shoes I can never afford. But it also gives me ideas for my own wardrobe, especially. Here’s what I’m obsessed with at the moment!

Items:

  1. Lord of the Rings map crop top:聽I bought that LotR crop top from Store Envy‘s shop called Hearts & Minds. I saw it on a fellow blogger on Instagram and had to have it!
  2. Alice in Wonderland printed skirt:聽This skirt is from an Etsy shop called Go Follow Rabbits and it features the original Alice illustrations. LOVE.
  3. Peter Pan temporary tattoo from Litographs:聽The Litographs temporary tattoos are awesome, and I recently ordered an Alice in Wonderland temporary tattoo as part of a tattoo chain鈥擨 ordered a random line from Alice in Wonderland, and the whole book is being sold line-by-line as temporary tattoos, so you take a picture and send it to Litographs and they’ll have the whole book in photographs of people wearing the tattoos! I thought that was so cool.
  4. Kate Spade hot-air balloon purse:聽I saw a girl with the Kate Spade purse on the subway and fell in love. Sadly, it’s sold out. I want to keep an eye out for more quirky/fun purses like this that are a little less expensive.
  5. Alice + Olivia elephant pouch:聽Again, this one is also sold out but I’ve been monitoring eBay and Poshmark so hopefully someone wants to sell theirs soon!

These are the shoes I’ve been remastering the past couple weeks. I decided to take them out for a stroll pre-makeover. It was a gorgeous, sunlit day but a little cool. Sporting some neon legs here. I have a vast collection of colored tights from years past and I’m trying to figure out if I still like them. I think I may be outgrowing that particular style, but I do like this look.

I got this amazing ring from Etsy: it’s made from the yellowing pages of an old book. I am so careful when I wear it; it’s treated with shellac or something but it’s still delicate!

I got these boots for Christmas from Modcloth. I love the Victorian feel they have, and especially the blue laces which offer many opportunities for fun color combinations. Half of this outfit is borrowed from my sisters’ closets 馃檪
