Fashion // Dahlia

Hmmm, what to wear when it’s 36 degrees in April? On this day, I had a cute outfit planned but alas, it had snowed and hailed overnight and even though the day was beautiful, it was windy and freezing temps.

Instead, I styled this half spring/half winter outfit that kept me warm and kept me from feeling like I was still plunged into winter. And since I’m not buying anything right now, these are all re-styled pieces from the last year!

My life has been pretty stressful lately, with long work hours and various responsibilites that have been stretching me thin. As always, styling outfits and indulging this passion is an outlet. I get to share that passion here, and I’m grateful for that! Hope you like this. Let me know in the comments what you wear during unseasonably cold days in spring!

Fashion // The past and pending

Lately, in an effort to not shop so much, I’ve been trying to repurpose old things. In that spirit, last week I found this dress that I bought last year but never wore! I tend to buy things on a whim and then wonder if I can pull it off. Luckily, I really liked the way this shirt dress looked, paired with a thick black belt with gold accents. I added more gold highlights here and there to reinforce the look, and with the Posie K lip color, I think I tied it together well!

Also: STRAIGHT HAIR. I just had it cut, and so I had that new-haircut swagger. Instant confidence, am I right?

Fashion | All that light follows the cracks

Pleats + lace. I’m still on this neutral trend, but I couldn’t help bringing in a soft color into this outfit. I love the swish of this skirt and the wide pleats. On my feet are my fave spring/summer shoes from Nasty Gal, bought last year. They’re great for day and night and as a bonus point, they’re also really walkable, providing I don’t lace them too tight. I wear them almost every day in the summer.

All of my tops I’ve worn in the past few weeks are slightly tinted blue. Hair problems 🙂

Fashion: Fairy-World

My favorite colors! Black, red, and gold, with a bit of brown thrown in for good measure. I wore this out to a dinner date last week. These knit tights from American Apparel are so lovely and warm, but they rip so easily! I find myself having to constantly darn them (I’m going to refrain from making a “darn it” joke right here, but I am that cheesy). I’ve had these Adrienne Vittadini boots for a couple years now. I got them absurdly cheap from Marshall’s.

“Looking from the window at the fantastic light and colour of my glittering fairy-world of fact that holds no tenderness, no quietude, I long suddenly for peace, for understanding.”

Fashion: A Bookish Look

A bookish look in honor of Jane Austen and her scathing character portrayals. Lizzy Bennet is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, as she should be to any book lover and admirer of strong women who are also intelligent, flawed, and emotional. Austen knew what she was doing when she wrote characters like Lizzy, Emma, and Catherine, among others, who are smart, arrogant, funny, proud, naive, and dynamic. Austen consistently makes me laugh out loud. And I dearly love a laugh.
