This year, my new year’s resolution is to work out and get fit. I’ve always been underweight and have never really worked out before, but being healthy is, of course, not always tied to being slim. Being healthy means eating right, making good decisions about the food you eat, and exercising. But since I didn’t know where to start, the Home DNA Healthy Weight™ test came in extremely handy. Here’s what it is and how it can help you with your fitness goals.
The Home DNA Healthy Weight™ test is a DNA healthy weight analysis that uses your DNA to isolate genes that might make it easier or harder for you to lose weight and be healthy. You take the test by ordering a kit ($119) and taking four swabs of your inner cheeks for analysis. After a few weeks, your results are ready, and you can figure out what’s exactly going on in your body that prevents or contributes to weight loss, and how you can tailor your meal and exercise plans to suit your fitness goals.
The best part of this analysis is that you get a whole week’s worth of meal plans, as well as four customized exercise plans! The test goes a lot deeper though, into several categories that include: how your body processes different macronutrients (carbohydrates, fats, and proteins) and different vitamins (B12, C, D, etc.). The test also tells you which workouts to do in order to maximize weight loss or your overall health. Here are a few photos of my own results:
As you can see, my genes indicate that my diet is likely to be affected by fats, but not as much by carbohydrates. Also, I have an excellent response to weight training as opposed to straight cardio, which means I have to add more cardio into my workouts to see similar results to someone with a different gene combination. Make sense?
I was totally floored by my results, and when I read the entire report, it felt like my body and healthy were being demystified. Having insight into the way your body works is invaluable to create a fitness plan, and this is something I’ve never seen before. Not even personal trainers know this much about your body!
My Favorite Part
Just to be sure, I did give this report to my athletic trainer boyfriend to read over, and he took me to the gym to start getting the hang of some basic exercises and taught me proper form and technique. I think this step is important as well, for anyone beginning with real workouts like I am. He also corroborated the science of the report and helped explain a few things to me.
Like I said before, my favorite things about the report were the weekly meal plans and exercise regimens. Included were different exercise regimens based on where you work out: gym, home, or a combination of both. I’ll be working out at home because I already have a treadmill and a bike, so I’m off to a great start in 2018!
And now for the best part! If you’re interested in purchasing this kit for yourself, use the coupon code HW50 to get $50 off your order until 4/30 (making the kit $69 dollars instead of $119). I loved the experience of getting to know my body and what will make it healthier, and I hope you do too.
