Since I was in first grade, I’ve needed corrective lenses. I was the first student in my grade to need glasses and I can still see my classmates’ heads whipping around to catch a glimpse of me when I first showed up to first grade with bright red, confetti-pattern glasses. It made me feel conspicuous at first, and then as I got older it was just a drag, and for a tween with glasses as well as acne and braces, a huge blow to my self-esteem. Luckily, in eighth grade, I made the switch to contacts and have never had issues.
Every once in awhile I do wear glasses, but since my eyesight is so poor they tend to make me dizzy, especially when I’m going up or down stairs: not ideal for anyone. Plus, there are just so many ways that contacts make my life easier! For example, I can nail that perfect cat eye. I can lie down on my side to watch TV without my glasses trying to escape from my face. I can walk in the rain and see where I’m going! Where’s the bad?
The only downside to wearing contacts I’ve ever experienced would be their tendency to dry out at the end of the day. Sometimes I’ll think I’m super tired because my eyes are sore, and then I’ll take out my contacts and realize my eyes were just dry. So this fall I made the switch to ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses, and I got my eye exam at Target Optical®.
Yep: at Target! I didn’t know this was even an option until recently, but it was SO easy and a very similar exam experience to a traditional doctor’s office, except cheaper and more efficient: shorter wait time! I made an appointment through TargetOptical.com and went early on a Saturday morning when the doctor was in. The website interface was so easy to navigate and I could do everything online.
So I headed off to my friendly neighborhood Target and went straight for the Target Optical® section, and it looked almost exactly like a traditional ophthalmologist’s office. My eye exam was so quick, and given that I’ve had eye exams once a year for the past TWENTY years, it was every bit as professional and comprehensive as a traditional eye exam. I told my doctor I wanted to switch to ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses and I got a prescription for contacts and glasses, which thankfully haven’t changed since last year. I also asked a lot of questions about the health of my eyes as I get older and the existence of “floaters” in my vision, which I was assured are normal for someone with eyes so far outta whack as mine are!
The whole eye exam was quick and easy, and about $50-60 less than it would’ve been at a doctor’s office. My doctor gave me a new set of ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses, a quick refresher on properly putting in contacts (as if I needed one, but I appreciated it all the same) and sent me on my way with a fresh order of ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses. That night I felt such a difference from my previous set: they didn’t bother me as much as my old ones did, and I wasn’t tricked into thinking I was tired when I wasn’t!
The whole experience was really cool, and so convenient. I can’t wait to get my new ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses and continue my love affair with not having to wear glasses!
