Every year I go to the Renaissance Faire, and almost every year I pick up a little vial of lavender essential oil, and every year I run out because I use it so much. Essential oils are like little bottles of magic and utility: they can help in small, everyday ways that can, nevertheless, make a big difference to your daily routine. Recently, I tried a new brand of essential oil, the Nature’s Truth® Aromatherapy brand available at CVS, and I thought I’d share three awesome, easy ways to start using essential oils every day to relax and unwind.
I bought three products at CVS:
- Lavender Mist Spray
- Lavender 15ml Essential Oil
- Tea Tree 15ml Essential Oil
I found them in the vitamins/digestive health/cold & flu aisle on a top shelf.
Nature’s Truth® essential oils are derived from 100% all-natural plant sources and the aromatherapy products are so versatile they can be used in dozens of ways. I’ve incorporated aromatherapy into my daily wellness routine, and so can you. Here are three ways how:
1. Using Lavender Mist Spray on Bedding
Oh man, do I LOVE the scent of lavender. For years I’ve been misting my pillow and sheets with lavender before I go to bed—it INSTANTLY soothes me and relaxes me. I usually read for a bit before going to bed, trying not to be on my phone too much because the light can interfere with sleep, and adding a couple spritzes of lavender is essential to help me wind down after a stressful day.
Between my commute and spending all day staring at a screen, and dealing with the chaos of New York, a couple sprays of essential oil go a long way.
2. Lavender-Scented Bubble Bath
Nothing is more synonymous with a self-care routine than taking a bubble bath. In the past, I’ve used lavender-scented bubble bath, but I recently took a bath and added about 5-7 drops of pure essential oil to my bath and it was AMAZING. When your tub is about halfway full, add a few drops here and there, and let that heady aroma waft through the air…
If you’re not into baths, drop some essential oil into your shower after turning on the water, away from where the water will immediately wash it away, to let the steam of the hot water bloom the scent and make you feel like you’re in a spa. It’s so simple, and it’s such a mood lifter and a great way to relax—especially if you shower at night, like me.
Showers are also a great time to use Tea Tree Essential Oil, since this oil is meant to make you feel rejuvenated and invigorated, and also purified: great for morning showers!
3. Infuse Your Whole Space with Scent with a Diffuser
I looooove walking into a room that smells like lavender. This is another great way to use essential oils. Basically, a diffuser is a little device into which you put water mixed with a few drops of essential oil, and the diffuser releases the steam from this scented water all over your room. I use an ultrasonic one, and it’s so soothing.
You can also use a reed diffuser, a glass vase containing a mix of base and essential oils, with reeds placed in it that release the oils into the air. This is great for long-term diffusing, and it looks pretty too!
I’ve gotten into the habit of using my ultrasonic diffuser every night, with a mix of both Tea Tree and Lavender Essential Oils, and the scents help to calm me and re-orient my mind. I also like diffusing this scent to create a pleasant, calming atmosphere to write. I’m a person who needs a little peace in order to be creative, and using essential oils creates a perfect setting to let my mind roam free. It’s such a little, simple thing to do, but aromatherapy has quickly become a necessity in my daily life.
